Ag Education

Washington Ag in the Classroom promotes agricultural literacy.

Every person should know and understand where their food and water come from.

Three issues a year of our Ag@School magazine (targeted at 4th graders but used by teachers all the way through high school) are mailed to teachers who request subscriptions for their students. The issues focus on a general overview of agriculture, technology, and stewardship; they are supplemented with a teacher’s guide aligned to the Common Core Standards.

You can visit the website http://www.waic.net and explore all the available resources and links. The National Ag in the Classroom link to the Curriculum Matrix is a dynamic source of on-line lesson plans aligned with Commom Core Standards. You can search for a grade level or topic area for agricultural lessons reflecting all subject areas for K-12th grade.

Starting in 2014 WAIC has partnered with the Seattle Times Newspapers in Education (NIE) program to produce an insert highlighting Washington agriculture every April.  WAIC also partners with various organizations such as FFA, 4-H, Granges, county Farm Bureaus, Washington State University Extension, and government agencies to provide accurate agriculture and food facts for their various projects, farm fairs, publications, and educational experiences.

WAIC uses social media to educate and promote agricultural education. The two Facebook sites:  www.facebook.com/WashingtonAgInTheClassroom  and  www.facebook.com/MaxtheFarmDog  were created for students and teachers.

Washington Ag in the Classroom is funded 100% by donations from individuals, organizations and businesses.
